The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory is an agency of the UK Ministry of Defence. As part of its remit to provide UK government with advice and specialised facilities for research, Dstl maintains breeding colonies of common marmosets and pure-bred rhesus monkeys of Indian origin, to support research activities conducted on site. Both colonies have been established for >20y and  are self-sustaining. The research is cross-disciplinary and directed towards the development of countermeasures to prevent or mitigate the effects of poisoning by chemical or biological agents.
